Did you know 2 in 3 of your friends will be diagnosed with skin cancer at some point in their lives? I may count as one of those but who will the other be? With some easy precautions you can reduce the likelihood of it happening to you and your friends.

I’m always telling you about the importance of using sunscreen but today I’m sharing with you why I’m so passionate about sun protection. I was diagnosed with skin cancer at just 22 years old, and I hope that my story of skin cancer can help you prevent having one of your own.  Continue Reading

Lip Beauty Spot Pre-Op 4

Since I was a child I’ve had a beauty spot on my lip. Some call it a freckle, some a sun spot, some people (a lot of people!) even thought I just liked to chew on pens …. whatever you call it doesn’t matter, the fact is it was growing and spreading. It had been monitored all my life by dentists, GP’s and dermatologists and even though all of them said I had nothing to be concerned about, it still worried me about how often it was changing. From past experience I had learnt that just because a doctor says something doesn’t look like cancer doesn’t make it so. I didn’t want to run that risk any longer.

On Thursday I had my wisdom teeth out and I decided at the same time I would like my beauty spot removed. If you follow me on social media you probably would have seen some before shots but I wanted to update you quickly on how it’s going. The surgeon underestimated how big and deep the spot was. Not to be a pessimist but I always knew this spot was more trouble than it looked.  Continue Reading

Scars are one of my favourite topics. I am one of those sick people who find bruises and injuries fascinating, and I find the healing process even more fascinating. I have my fair share of scars (clumsy? that’s me!) and I am always trying to find the best method of treating them. The great thing about this particular niche of skin care is that it is continuously being researched and developed, so improved treatments and products are becoming available all the time. This is what led me to question the most important aspects of treating scars. Cosmetic surgeon, Dr Joseph Ajaka from Cosmos Clinic, has given us the top 5 things you need to know about healing scars.

You may want to bookmark this one for future incidents!  Continue Reading

Ok, straight off I have to tell you I have already lied. There is not 5 things. There are 10 things. Frankly, people make way too many mistakes before they opt for plastic surgery so there is no way I could leave it at just 5 things you need to know. You need to know all 10 so I have recruited Kate Moreland, the director of Clarify Clinic, to tell us about the 10 most common mistakes she sees from people considering plastic surgery.

Even if you or someone you know isn’t necessarily considering plastic surgery right now, you should definitely read this because it is something you cannot discount down the track. Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
