Posts in Thomas Taw

I don’t heat style my hair a lot, mostly because I am just too lazy, but also because my hair is so thin I just don’t want to risk thinning it out even more. However, it is winter and walking around with wet hair even indoors leaves me shivering. So lately I have been blowdrying my hair far more than usual and that means I have to start heat protecting it. Some of the shampoos and conditioners I use have heat protection included but because I am always changing for reviews, I thought I should use a seperate heat defence product. The first one I tried is by Thomas Taw for the Sunsilk Co-Creations Damage Hair Reconstruction collection because a little while ago I interviewed Mr Taw and I was very impressed by his knowledge on protecting damaged hair.  Continue Reading

Last Thursday (26 May) we celebrated the wonderful birthday of yours truly, The Plastic Diaries. Yes, we reached the ripe old age of 1. I mentioned to you briefly that today (May 30) I will be celebrating with a big giveaway. For those of you who are regular readers of The Plastic Diaries you may notice that today is the last Monday of the month, which is usually when we have our monthly giveaway, but this month I wanted to honour our 1st birthday by doing something a little different. Instead of giving away just 1 product that I love from the past 30 days, I wanted to do a years worth. This giveaway features products or brands I have mentioned in the past year, whether it had been a review or a special offer, there is a mix of everything.

Why This Giveaway

Before I get into the prizes and competition nitty gritty, I just wanted to say a few quick words. HA! I know, I have never said a ‘few’ or ‘quick’ words in my lifetime, but I will try.

Making it to the 1 year mark for me means a lot. It has been a tiresome, exhausting, crazy and joyful ride that I wouldn’t have changed a minute of. However, how this past year has been for me is of no real importance. This past year has really been about you. Talking to you, sharing with you and having fun with you. More than anything I hope you have learnt something while reading The Plastic Diaries but also had a little fun. Some of you openly express your opinions, via the comments, Twitter or Facebook, and I love every time you do. Others sit there quietly and support me from a far, I love that too.

I am sure you have all seen those Sunsilk commercials boasting their new co-creations collection. If you were like me you were probably asking yourself ‘who are these people’? Judgemental aren’t I. Well, recently one of the co-creators actually made a trip to Australia to talk about his involvement with the brand. That man was Thomas Taw.

When I found out Tom would be making the trip to Australia I wanted to find out a bit more about him. More so, why is he the so called ‘damage hair expert’. After all, he was charged with the power to create an affordable hair treatment regime for damaged hair, by one of the biggest names in haircare. I figured a huge name like Sunsilk would not entrust their brand to an ‘expert’ unless he was exactly that. Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
