Pantone 2014 Colour of the Year Radiant Orchid

Trends chop and change just like the weather and keeping up with them is quite the challenge. But thanks to Pantone, we can always count on a special colour to keep us feeling trendy in more ways than just fashion and beauty.

When Pantone announced that the long anticipated colour of the year for 2014 would be none other than the stunning Radiant Orchid, we could not wait to seek out the many different ways in which this captivating, magical, enigmatic purple could be incorporated into our lives. We certainly had a field day with Emerald, Pantone’s colour of the year in 2013, which made its splash for being associated with sophistication and luxury. Nevertheless, Radiant Orchid proves to have just as much vibrancy and versatility as it reaches all facets of the design, fashion and beauty world one hue of purple at a time. Continue Reading

David Jones Beauty Book Header

David Jones is one of Australia’s biggest department stores (the other being Myer) and considered by many as THE destination for beauty shopping. Personally, I have always been a bit of a Myer girl but over the past few years I have been preferring online over the physical stores. My shopping experiences at the big Australian department stores never go very well, especially at David Jones. The ladies behind the counter always give me filthy looks, even when I am forking over hundreds of dollars on a beauty haul. I always get caught at the register with a 50 year old machine that takes 20 minutes to print out a receipt. And no matter what time of day I go there always seems to be a mothers group with 20 prams in tow knocking me over. Not to mention the last time I went to David Jones Food Hall I got food poisoned by a smoothie. I really have no luck at those stores but yesterday the David Jones Beauty catalogue landed in my letterbox and all those bad memories were pushed aside. The 60 or so pages of beauty porn have lured me in and I am going to share with you the special offers that won me over.

The best thing I noticed about the David Jones Beauty book this year was that most of the offers are available online. Now I don’t have to go in to a store and have a cranky old sales assistant swear at me under her breath. Score!

Here are the Gift With Purchase offers that bowled me over.  Continue Reading

The past few months have seen lots of great new foundations enter the market. Foundation is one of those cosmetics that is really personal and a constant battle to find one that works for you. Makeup become discontinued, formula changes and your own skin needs change, so it is important to know what is out there that could work for you. Today I am going to take a look back at the new foundations launched in 2012 so far.

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
