FAT GIRL BEAUTY PROBLEMS

For a long time I’ve been learning startling things about the human body from the TV show, Embarrassing Bodies. Recently I discovered the spin-off, Embarrassing Fat Bodies, and immediately thought to myself,”hey now, isn’t this just going to be a whole show of fat shaming?”. I was wrong, it’s actually incredibly informative but it also made me realise something I hadn’t noticed previously. As I’ve discussed many times, my weight yoyo’s dramatically but something that clicked while I watched this show was that there are certain beauty issues that flare-up when I’m heavier. These are Fat Girl Beauty Problems.

All of these ailments can present in any person – age, weight, race, etc is irrelevant, but I’ve personally found they’re at their worst when I’m carrying extra flub. The emotional and health issues a girl can face from being overweight is enough to deal with. It goes without saying that losing weight is the best solution for these problems but I’m going to tell you how you can ease the burden in the meantime. Robin McGraw

I love Dr Phil and Mrs Dr Phil (aka Robin McGraw). They would have to be my favourite TV couple of all time. One thing I especially love about Robin McGraw is how perfectly immaculate she has always been, even from day 1 when the Dr Phil show had little budget and she had to style herself. Her makeup is flawless, her skin radiant and she knows how to use cosmetic enhancement in her favour. It’s little surprise that Robin has decided to create her own skincare line but it’s how this came about that really resonates with me.

In an interview with WWD, Robin spoke of her desire to look after herself after a personal devastation nearly 30 years ago – the loss of her mother.  Continue Reading

ANTM Makeover Header

Australia’s Next Top Model is one of my favourite reality shows. I have never quite come to terms with the fact I stopped growing at 11 years old because it is was my life goal to be a supermodel. Watching ANTM is as close as I can get to living the real experience so I embrace it like a drug addiction each year. If I was only allowed to watch 1 hours of TV per year I would most definitely pick the “makeover episode” of Australia’s Next Top Model. Makeovers make thrilling TV and I love seeing how much a person’s appearance can change with a bit of a hair cut or splash of hair dye.

This year Troy Thompson, TRESemme’s ANTM Hair Director, was in charge of the makeovers and I think he did a spectacular job on the girls. We have been lucky enough to get Troy to spill the beans on what he did to some of our favourite model-contestants. Continue Reading

Slim woman vs obese woman

The success of The Biggest Loser has made people all over the world realise they are fat and lazy … myself included. We see the contestants of the show drop weight like crazy, shedding kg’s every week and transforming their lives within just a couple of months, and most of us all joined in on the new health kick. The problem is, is maintaing such dramatic results realistic? Adro Sarnelli a contestant on season 1 of The Biggest Loser Australia, and the very first winner. He also happened to be my favourite contestant of the series. He did an amazing job and oh my, his end result was jaw dropping. However, when I recently heard that Adro had struggled with returning to everyday life after the show it made me realise that all of us who joined in on the journey had very similar struggles. We weren’t given the tools we needed to sustain what we had learnt during the show.

Adro had a lot to learn after leaving The Biggest Loser and now he has turned that knowledge in a way to benefit us all with his very own obesity rehabilitation clinic, The New Me. Today he is helping us by sharing 5 important things we should all know about losing weight and maintaing the results.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
