Skincare Application Video Tutorial

Learning how to apply your skincare products is an important part of looking after yourself. Not all products should be applied in the same way and unless you were instructed on how to apply the products you’re using, you may actually be assisting your skin to form lines or lose elasticity at a faster rate. This is why I’ve created a quick video tutorial on how to apply skincare products.   Continue Reading

Rico Zombie Boy with Normal Skin

That guy looks like a regular, spunky dude, doesn’t he? Nothing all that flash. Some good cheekbones, a bad-boy gaze, attitude …. doesn’t really appear to need a makeover. Actually, that photo above IS THE MAKEOVER.

Say Whaaaat Eddie Murphy Coming To America

Say whaaaat?

This post is going to show you just how incredible makeup really is. While most of our everyday interactions with makeup may just be to add a little colour to our lives, the fact is that makeup can and does much more than that. I’ve always believed makeup isn’t just for the use of shallow humans who desire to improve their looks for frivolous reasons. No reason for using makeup is without purpose and I do believe whatever that purpose may be is perfectly acceptable.

These beauty transformations will show you that makeup is a powerful tool, and one that has changed many lives.  Continue Reading

How To Apply Foundation with Stippling Brush copy

Everyone applies their makeup in different ways using different tools. When it comes to foundation I never stick to one tool for too long. Right now I am loving the Stippling Brush for applying liquid foundation, and while I am no expert at makeup application, I thought you may still be interested to know how to use a stippling brush and why I like it so I created this video tutorial.

NOTE: I reference winter in this video because I filmed it at the end of August but just ignore that 🙂 Continue Reading

Dove Real Beauty Sketches Header

I didn’t have any plans to share with you that tomorrow is my 27th birthday. I may regret publishing my age in the future but it does actually play a part in this post. I would be lying if I said I had any emotion other than horrified and scared. Ageing scares the $*%& out of me. I am not afraid of death, it is just getting older that worries me. How you look, how you feel, how much you can do …. all that diminishes with age and I have known it since I could walk. Like many young people I used to love birthdays but once you pass 21 and the birthday parties stop, the presents stop and you realise cake is the devil … there is just nothing to look forward to aside from wrinkles and joint pain. However, today Dove made me cry and I don’t think they could have picked a better time to do it.

Dove have just released a new campaign about real beauty. It is a little confronting and enlightening at the same time. Watch the video and you will understand what I mean. Continue Reading

The Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign is an amazing initiative to get woman to grow their hair long and strong, then donate to have it turned into a free wig for cancer patients. In the USA, Pantene USA have been running this campaign since 2006 in conjunction with the American Cancer Society. To date they have distributed over 24,000 free real-hair wigs through the American Cancer Society wig banks. Now the campaign has come to Australia and in conjunction with Look Good … Feel Better, Pantene Australia hope to break the record of free wigs created and distributed across Australia AND New Zealand.

Yesterday, I participated by cutting my hair off and donating my ponytail. Today I want to share with you why I did it, and my journey in video and pictures. Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
